Members Popular Post Gail 8588
My positive is sort of a mixed bag. I am enjoying an absolutely glorious day in the Ocala National Forest. Hot, but not too hot, nice breeze, flowers are blooming, the lake is shimmering, birds are chattering to me happily. The mixed bag part is that I am here dealing with a broken in door from a burglary at my cabin. Ugh. Not much of value was taken, sadly it was mostly food. They left the TV and other potentially saleable items. Didn't even take liquor or beer. Just food from the pantry, eggs cheese yogurt etc from the fridge and all the frozen food, pizza, chicken, sausages, veggies. It's hard to be too angry when it's pretty clear they were hungry. The biggest expense will be fixing the door. 2 2
Moderators KayC Posted March 13 Author Moderators Report Share Posted March 13 Gail, I am glad you are still able to view and appreciate the positive in this day, the beautiful weather. Sadly, it does sound like they were hungry...too bad they didn't just ASK rather than break in, which now leaves you with issues and expense that were unnecessary. Will your insurance cover it or does this just fall under deductible?
Members Popular Post WithoutHer
This evening I forced myself out of the house and took a drive to McDonald's. Ordered a large vanilla milkshake and small fries. 1000 calories for my skinny frame. It was emotionally challenging because I hadn't been there since the last time I did a Big Mac run for Vickie. I think that was about a month before she passed. Every now and then she would get a hankering for McDonald's and we would get out of the house together. Usually we would eat in the car sitting in the parking lot and then we would take a scenic drive around town. Sometimes we would go and take a walk on the C&O canal tow path along the Potomac River near town. Yeah the trip to MacD's brought up a lot of memories and some tears but I got out of the house and felt like I was doing it for Vickie. 4

Members Gail 8588
5 hours ago, KayC said: Will your insurance cover it or does this just fall under deductible? There is no insurance on the cabin, not even fire or liability if a guest got hurt. No company will give a policy on the recreational leasehold interest. We used to try to get insurance. These are barely maintained roads out in the National Forest. Forest Service says they will maintain the roads so they are passable with 4 wheel drive with high clearance. Even so there are times you can get bogged down in deep clay mud holes with 4 wheel drive. Since no emergency vehicles or fire trucks can reliably get there, no insurance company will provide coverage. We have had the cabin since 1979 and this is about the 5th break-in. So not too bad really. All totalled there is probably less than a $500 loss with this break-in, so if I had insurance the loss probably wouldn't exceed the deductible. The boys and I are going to have a discussion about just not locking the door when we are not there. That way, if someone wants to break-in, they won't actually have to break anything.

Members Popular Post WithoutHer
Got out of the house again today for a haircut. Haven't done that for almost a year. Just to add to the various salon/barber conversations here he is an in town barber been here for years is 74 and has no plans to retire. He's an old hippie and great guitar player also. Have a doctor's appointment tomorrow and waiting on the groomer to call me back to get Buster sheared next week. Trying to get motivated just to get a few things done. It's still emotionally difficult getting out. 3
Members Popular Post Boggled
Dug in the dirt this morning, in the newer vegetable garden plot. Want to mix in a couple bags of compost/manure and some peat moss. It's good to just be out there, about 65F this morning, perfect for digging. It's good to have a project not too strenuous, but strenuous enough, digging with a mattock till I consider myself "worn out enough." 3

Back in those days they returned checks too so took up space. Also a worn out quilt. Also got a load of wood in. Got a call from Iris wanting me to come let Jazzy out at bedtime ...told her I would 1/2 hour BEFORE bedtime after I load the fire and let it burn on high for 20 min. I didn't sleep well last night so am annoyed. I know probably doesn't belong here.. 2

Today was a little cooler but the grass is turning green and the tulip leaves are sprouting. Finally got around to painting the master bathroom, now three more rooms to go. I do a bit at a time, it is very tiring at my age 😂 Did all the laundry including bed sheets, vacuumed and mopped the floors. I'm beat now. 4
Moderators Popular Post widower2 Posted March 16 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted March 16 Maybe it's the Northerner in me, but 80s is too hot for March for me. Low 70s tops, thanks. Went out today in the back wooded part of my lot and ripped out or chopped various invasive vines that like to grow on tree trunk and with smaller saplings it can do a number on them. I think it's kind of dumb in a way to do it because nobody will ever see a diff, probably not even me. But it's an excuse to get outside. I need to clear up the lingering leaves in various places along the house next. I love the days getting longer and warmer though 3
Moderators KayC Posted March 16 Author Moderators Report Share Posted March 16 The weather is perfect now, loving it! Okay maybe this is mean, but not if you know the divorce my kids' dad gave me after a loveless 23 year marriage. I took out the bank account and added him onto it, yet 23 years later he went to the bank and took me off of it (keeping our $)...so if someone happens to find our bank account # at the garbage dump...just saying. Not going to worry about it! 3
Members Popular Post RichS
Today Ross and I took a walk to the pond; not too far away from our house. I always find it relaxing there. A time to reflect on my life as it stands these days. For some reason, today I felt as if missing Chris was a "tiny bit" less painful. And yet, I can't explain in words how that came about. I wouldn't call it a turning point, but at least (in my mind) it is a tiny (and I mean tiny) step in my journey to move forward. Has anybody else had these strange revelations??............... 3

I noticed at Christmas and several days following, I was less sad ... for instance. Today according to "Planting by the Moon" is supposed to be a planting day for above-ground vegetables. I guess I'll force myself out there to plant snow peas (but is it too late?? oh well) but though it's another gorgeous day, maybe because I used up a lot of energy yesterday, digging, today it's lassitude. heh heh heh. 3

Members Popular Post WithoutHer
I found a positive for the day after having such a day of grief downfall yesterday and I want to be sure to share it especially with @Sim7079 in regards to a post in "Today it just seems to be an overwhelming sadness". Coming out of the tsunami landed me in a place I'm sure some here know but I did not. Seeking online grief help again I came across of the late Earl A Grollmann writings and quotes which helped me look deeper inside myself. Reading references to his life and publications I found this insightful list of quotes: https://www.azquotes.com/author/64158-Earl_A_Grollman And the at end of first one that I believe we are all learning the hard way, and I'm certain I've seen it posted here before but it's probably the most honest and truthful of them all. "The only cure for grief is to grieve." His words struck home with my battle and calmed me a little bit. And the list left me thinking Vickie would have appreciated them when she lost her mom and brother. But at the time she had her family and me to hold and grieve with her. It is so much harder being alone. But I came to post a positive and not end on a downer. I am grateful to all who leave reactions and comments. 7

Moderators Popular Post KayC Posted March 19 Author Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted March 19 Last night about 20 min. after I went to sleep I got woke up with a loud noise of something heavy falling just outside. I got up and checked. My birdhouse, Panther's basket & mohair lining, a wooden crate of shells George and I had collected, and some firewood, all came down...my guess is Panther got spooked by something and took off running, upsetting the apple cart so to speak. I got everything righted and laid back down...took me over three hours but thank God I finally got to sleep. Woke up and no internet, but I had phone, so I knew it was on the laptop. It showed airplane mode. How does it just change a setting while I'm asleep! Couldn't find an off switch. Restarted the laptop, nope. Called Spectrum and got tech support on the line, a really nice guy stayed on the line with me, he reset the modem, then I restarted the laptop, finally after an hour, internet back! So for me that's two positives, getting back to sleep, and getting internet back! It's a day for patience and persistence. 2 hours ago, shawnt said: I am actually looking forward to something!!!! Members Popular Post RichS
One of the sliding doors on my van hasn't been working for about a year now. Took it to my local mechanic a couple of months ago and he said that it was too labor intensive to do it; and if someone did you were talking $900 plus the part. Just for the ha ha we went to the place that fixed our door many years ago. The guy said it would be $195 in labor but the part (new from the dealer) would be very expensive. I was able to get around that. We drove to this auto salvage place in Durham (I've dealt with them many times before) and purchased the part (used) for $100. So, end of story, what I thought was going to be a $900 repair got whittled down to $300.

Members Popular Post Rey Dominguez Jr
So, after seeing my doctor about my lower back pain and pain in my right hip and thigh, he sent me for x-rays. I missed his call yesterday but he left me a voice mail explaining good and maybe not so good. Good - nothing to report with my hips, specially right hip. Not so good - x-ray shows some arthritis in my lower back. That is why my back is painful until I start moving around. The right hip and thigh pain is related to nerve pain and that could be related to the arthritis. So the good in all that is I have a better idea of what is going on with my back. Doctor says next is a discussion of different therapies for, hopefully, some relief going forward. In the meantime, yoga stretches in the morning and heating pad when I am sitting. And keep moving!

Members Popular Post Roxeanne
Yesterday i went in Milan to see an art exposition...an italian painter of 16th century! He was a great portraitist and of course he did wealthy people's portraits... At the certain moment the electronic guide said that most of the portraits are of the already dead people...did for remember them! A thought transfixed me: what it meant being poor and don't have anything to remember your loved one ? To see him or her again??? Surely a deep sufference and pain! I am grateful that thanks to technology we can have photos videos and ear their voices again... Members Popular Post DMB
My positives: Got sent home from the office today, as it is being renovated and they were close to my area which literally means on a Friday afternoon-I am not doing too much!! Daughter is getting married. Currently planning the shower which is in May and wedding in August. Sometimes I worry I will run out of money before dying, but it's only money. He would want me to spend it on her. She on the other hand is very frugal, which I admire. I have things set up for my children, so when I go it should be pretty easy, and they will be left with a little bit of money, not much, but anything is something and better than nothing. I'm the coordinator of a small meatball contest tomorrow. My friends invited me to their 2nd home which is down on the Northeast River in MD (about 40 minutes on the water from my place). Anyway, we are expecting a drenching rain storm tomorrow. I will travel the highways down instead of the back roads to get there in case of flooding. Excited to see their place. Will spend the night and be back Sunday-HOPEFULLY then seeing my son's smiling face here finishing the flooring in the spare bedroom. 3

I was hoping to post a positive here, maybe tomorrow...someone's little beagle was running all over the neighborhood today, I tried to rouse them, tried calling them, just got back from their place again, it's worse than breaking into the FBI! This gate is inpenetrable! Left a note in their mailbox which they won't see until tomorrow. If my dog was missing I'd be up and down the street talking to neighbors! Tried and tried calling, can't even leave a message. A neighbor with pit bulls and a snake has it in his garage! But my son is fluent in Spanish so if I get lost which is a strong possibility, I can call him and he can help. Members WithoutHer
This is one especially for Kay because I don't understand but I'm not complaining. My blood sugar has been steady around 105 all day according to my CGM. This is so not typical for me. I'm usually spiking all over the place during the day. I have done the same consumption and insulin as I do every single day and nothing different in my activity. I really am puzzled about it regardless this has been without a doubt a strangely good day for me. 3

Moderators widower2 Posted March 25 Moderators Report Share Posted March 25 My positive initially was a negative...I was watching TV and for some reason the power blinked (not stormy or windy outside). Normally the TV snaps right back on when power comes back on, but not this time. I clicked the remote several times...nothing. I went directly to the TV and hit the power button...nothing. Checked to see if the circuit breaker flipped. Nope. Now I'm thinking great, I have to buy a new TV. I had one last try: unplug it and re-plug it in. That worked; whew. Mind you I don't watch much TV, but I am very used to having it on all day just for background noise. It was so unsettlingly quiet without it that I turned on the microwave fan just to have some noise going while I was downstairs.
