Moderators KayC Posted December 24, 2023 Author Moderators Report Share Posted December 24, 2023 I avoid hospitals like the plague. I was attacked by my neighbor's dog last night, took them some homemade bread I made them for Christmas and they'd forgot to shut their gate so when they let him outside, he made a beeline for me, knocked me down, bit my arm up pretty good, my knees are bruised. I was pretty thankful he didn't go for my face. They thought I got bloodied from falling, umm, no, your dog bit me pretty badly. I don't get bloodied up like that from falling. It's pretty swollen today, hurts like the dickens. Can't use it for anything. Ought to be fun getting firewood in and shoveling snow this month. And hell no I didn't want to go to urgent care, a very long drive away, nope. Just have to heal and I figure it'll take at least a month. 6

Moderators KayC Posted December 24, 2023 Author Moderators Report Share Posted December 24, 2023 I tried to go to urgent care in Springfield, about 1 1/4 hours away, they wouldn't take me "because it's Christmas." Same thing with ER in Cottage Grove. I told them I'm sorry a dog bit me at Christmas. Then I came home to a message from Iris questioning my motives about why I'd feel the need to go to urgent care. WTH! She hasn't seen the wounds which go all the way around my arm as well as my knees. 😡 I don't feel the need to answer her. Everyone at church thought I should. 1
Members Popular Post foreverhis
Oh, Kay, this is awful news. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this and at Christmas.💗 I just don't know what to think or say about Iris. Her mindset and behavior baffle me. If it gets bad, please, please see if someone from church or a friend can drive you to urgent care or even the ER on the 26th. Actually, please see if you can do that anyway, though of course, only you know how "bad" is bad enough for that. You've had far too many bad encounters with dogs and need to make sure you're going to be okay. Is there anyone who can help you with firewood and snow shoveling for a while? What a horrid way to start the Christmas weekend. I'll be sending prayers and love your way today.🙏 3
Moderators Popular Post KayC Posted December 24, 2023 Author Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted December 24, 2023 So far no snow so will deal with that when I come to it. I got my firewood in this morning before a neighbor offered to, just taking a smaller load. It's very icy though and she's not used to it or navigating the sharp corner of the ramp, it can be pretty tricky, but I appreciated her offer.

Moderators KayC Posted December 26, 2023 Author Moderators Report Share Posted December 26, 2023 No it's my neighbor's across the street, there's a lot of trauma in there, nothing that won't heal. Thankful there's no snow. I was a little p_ssed at what Iris said last night though, we're at a dinner and she made me move so MaryLee could sit there (across from her) as "she has a broken toe." I've had three broken toes, my knees hurt way more, it's hard to walk. Why discount what I'm going through! Even so, the way that dog would lunge at me when I had to get near their fence to get the mail, I was seriously considering carrying a long sharp knife so IF he got loose somehow, and started biting me, he'd be SORRY. Maybe dead. No remorse from me. 1

Moderators KayC Posted January 8 Author Moderators Report Share Posted January 8 I woke up to NO WATER this morning! Don't know if I need a new pump or well or what. Pump Tec didn't trip. Members Popular Post Sparky1
Kay, is the pump plugged into an outlet? Maybe the outlet plug is a GFCI plug and needs to be reset, could have tripped if moisture got into it. If not, there is something wrong with the pump. Needs replaced, also electrical replaced, wiring will have to wait for winteru to be over. Already in for over $6,000... Well...(insert swear word or other angry thoughts of your choice). The ones that came into my mind aren't the type I say out loud outside of my own home and generally when I'm alone, though I'm afraid Miss Cosi has heard a juicy swear or two or 10 this past year. What a PITA this is for you on top of dealing with your dog attack wounds and Kodie's dog attack as well. I hope you are both at least feeling a bit better physically. What's the short term result on your well? Will a new pump at least give you water temporarily until the wiring can be replaced in the spring? 💗 I'm afraid I'm heading in a similar direction with one major appliance after another giving up the ghost. When the furnace started acting up over the holiday on the day my sister and BIL arrived, I asked, "Really? Now? Come on!" Bless my BIL's heart when I said I hate messing with gas appliances. He went out to the utility room, figured out how to remove the door, and read all the instructions inside. Then he and I went through the reset process. It didn't help, but I love that he steps in like that. He never treats me like I'm a "helpless girl" or an "old lady." What ended up helping was me turning off the thermostat completely before turning it, going through "view program" for all the settings, and then selecting "run program" on auto. Not 2 minutes later, it sent a full, correct signal to the furnace and everything started right up. The thermostat is something I can replace myself and which works right now as long as I don't mess with the auto program. But...the furnace is 33 years old, getting loud, not energy efficient, and the ducts haven't been cleaned in 20 years. As soon as my new washer-dryer combo is installed (back ordered for 4 months), followed by as soon as I've chosen my replacement range-oven-vent hood and completed all the prep (upgrading electrical, plus me cleaning 27 years of...yuck and repairing and painting the wall board), then I will tackle the furnace replacement. This year I also really do need to buy a new (to me) car, a new laptop, maybe a new TV. Plus I have more exterior work to be completed on the house. And all of this, every little bit, would be easier to bear if John were by my side. I miss him as much during the hard times as I do during the times I know would give him joy. Maybe more on my worst days. What made me happy was that when I thought it was the furnace, I immediately texted my friends group for recommendations of repair or HVAC companies. The replies started coming in literally 1 minute later. I had four reliable sources within 10 minutes, along with commiserations and "hang in there" support. My sister, who has become friends with many of my and John's/my friends, said, "Man, I love this group! I worry so much less about being 4 hours away knowing that you and we have friends who will be there for you immediately." She's right. I and we are blessed that way. And the reverse is true for her. She and my BIL have a loving and loyal group of long-time friends where they live. Her friends have my contact information too, so no matter what we can be there for each other. 3

Members Popular Post Narnia68
I can SO relate to this! I just lost my husband on 11/27/23. Since then, I've had a hole in my well building roof, something blew up in my pellet stove, the pipe behind my washing machine burst so I turned off the water at the pump, only to have all my house pipes freeze solid. Now I have no running water and I'm mopping up a flood of water in my hallway (even my curtains are soaked)...My walls are covered in moisture. I feel like Job! Does it ever end?
Moderators Popular Post KayC Posted January 16 Author Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted January 16 Sometimes it can feel that way (never ending)! My heart goes out to you, just been through this, sick for 2 1/2 weeks, attacked by a vicious dog right before Christmas, took three weeks to heal, a blizzard for nearly two weeks complete with a ton of snow, limbs down, then the well going bad, needing pump, pipes, electrical, switches, still need them to bury the electrical, it's right in my way of the path to the firewood, froze down to 24 so thick ice, slippery, it just feels neverending. Job describes it well. I'm so sorry, hoping this is soon behind you. Still awaiting the bill for the well, $5-6000...yay. If my husband was still here it would FEEL so much better, maybe no easier but when it's trouble shared, it feels more manageable. And then my internet and phone out for two days! Shut off from the world. And my puppy gets sick in the middle of this when the roads are impassable.

Moderators KayC Posted January 17 Author Moderators Report Share Posted January 17 And inbetween getting sick and the dogbite my son and granddaughter came over to move the family beds, a humongous task! Headboards and drawers filled with stuff, they hadn't been taken apart and moved for nearlyt 40 years! It was a tremendous undertaking and my son did it by himself, I assisted by helping move the smaller pieced of wood, cooking, doing dishes, tending my granddaughter, vacuuming/vacuuming/vacuuming! It clogged up my cleaner which I dealt with later. I'd love having them under any other circumstances, but we got through it. I just wish I was a grown man so I could have helped him instead of an old lady with 10% strength and dog bites from wrist to elbow. He went home (three hours away) and put one of the beds together and the next day repaired the other and assembled it. The kids are so happy to get them! 1

I agree, having your husband with you made troubles so much more manageable. I always relied on my husband for plumbing repairs, computer issues (oh, that reminds me, the night he died I shut down his computer and it crashed and now won't stay on so I have to call the Geek Squad from 80 miles away to repair it).
