Moderators KayC Posted December 4, 2023 Moderators Report Share Posted December 4, 2023 Kodie seems to have another inverted eye and will need surgery on it asap. It can cause blindness and pain if let go. He had his other eye done 6/1. It's a good thing I didn't breed him, as this is congenital. His breeder didn't know anything, it was his first litter. I still would have wanted him regardless. It's supposed to snow Friday so hoping he can get it Thursday. Snow coming Friday. I can get a ride if it snows for the recheck but not likely for the surgery as it'll be all day. Not feeling like Christmas this year. Not feeling up to my son coming and disrupting our nest here, not right now...my whole focus needs to be on Kodie at this time. Can't we just skip everything else? 1
Moderators KayC Posted December 4, 2023 Author Moderators Report Share Posted December 4, 2023 I called the vet promptly at 8, held quite a while, got disconnected. Called again, was told the surgeon or receptionist would call me back, nope! Doesn't look like it'll be today, possibly not this week. Wow, I never knew anyone else that went through it! It was very hard going through it the first time (the two week recovery with the cone), he wants to do his business in the bushes but can't smell with the cone on, so held it and then let it out on the couch after 36 hours...it was a disaster. Someone here told me about a products that neutralizes/cleans it up so I'm glad to have that this time. My friend told me to take the cone off during short walks so he can do his business, that helped, but the first 36 hours he was affected by anesthesia, couldn't walk, was dazed. Ugh, not looking forward to this again! And of course dealing with shoveling snow and hauling firewood will make this harder this time, no more June weather! Iris told me to let him play with Jazzy with his cone on...is she out of her ever lovin' mind?!!! NOT HAPPENING! Jazzy is much too rough, he needs two weeks healing and signed off on by the doctor before he's ready for play, and even then I'll be nervous! Leaving at 6 am, will have to load the fire early. No idea where I'll hang out while I wait, I don't eat breakfast and nothing else is open. Since it's out of town, I can't just go home and wait for a call. 1
Members Popular Post ThereIsAField
Hi Kay, Yes, and our cat haaaaated having a cone on too... Many dogs do way better with these things than with a cone: https://www.amazon.com/Elizabethan-Water-Resistant-Adjustable-Protective-Waterproof/dp/B09DSPVJQR/ref=sr_1_8?crid=1SY6R3QQNC1RA&keywords=ANWA%2BSoft%2BDog%2BCone%2BAlternative%2BAfter%2BSurgery%2C%2BAdjustable%2BElizabethan%2BCollar%2Bfor%2BDogs&qid=1701779172&sprefix=anwa%2Bsoft%2Bdog%2Bcone%2Balternative%2Bafter%2Bsurgery%2C%2Badjustable%2Belizabethan%2Bcollar%2Bfor%2Bdogs%2Caps%2C218&sr=8-8&th=1 Also, if Kodie's on a leash when you go for a walk, you should be able to take the cone off. Dogs are pretty miserable going for a walk in a cone. As long as you have 100% of your attention on him, you can take the cone off. It's just if you're distracted - say you're both in the kitchen, but you're preparing a meal - then he could scratch at his wounds/ stiches, while your back is turned. But while you're taking a short walk, if you're completely focussed on him not scratching himself, then it's fine to take the cone off, for the walk. But you're right - NO PLAYING with other dogs while the stiches/ surgery wounds are still an issue!

I didn't know there were "cone alternatives." If they would work to prevent him scratching his eye, might help??? Amazon also has dog sunglasses and goggles, not many even with reviews, though, and he'd probly just get them off? I don't know what or how to help you, KayC, but know I'll (and probably "we'll") be thinking of you ... tomorrow? Wednesday is appointment? Moderators KayC Posted December 5, 2023 Author Moderators Report Share Posted December 5, 2023 Yes it's tomorrow. And I think the Elizabethian collar would work better for say neutering than eye surgery, they can reach around it to the eye.

Moderators Popular Post KayC Posted December 6, 2023 Author Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted December 6, 2023 I posted an update, it seems to have disappeared. We left at 6 am to get there by 8 am, stopping for him to sniff, pee, and poop at a rest area. Dropped him off and he cried, he remembered last time. I passed the time buying him a toy and getting something for him to eat post surgery. Got gas, headed back there. They talked to the back and the surgeon had been about to call. When she had looked at the photo of his eye she had concurred but upon examination, she felt it is allergy and had a $18 ointment for him, no office visit charge. He came up all happy, not wearing the dreaded cone, grinning from ear to ear! I am ecstatic! Wishing my throat wasn't killing me, not having my son and granddaughter come this weekend, don't want them getting sick before Christmas. But I couldn't be more thrilled with this turn of events! 12

Moderators Popular Post KayC Posted December 7, 2023 Author Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted December 7, 2023 Got sicker throughout the day, voice went, canceled my son & granddaughter coming, bad time of year to get sick, today feel like death not quite warmed over, coughing up green stuff, no voice, can't breathe, was exposed nine days ago, it's been toying with me but the last two days let me know I'm not getting off lightly. Last night FB wouldn't work with Chrome, neighbor walked me through things to try by chat in Mozilla, had to reset my settings and clear everything, now everything's messed up but FB & Chrome are jiving. What a day/night! Literally died after I loaded the fire.

WHAT???!!! I said, "YOU gave it to ME!!!!" Oh?? she said. Yes, Oh... OMG I was so mad. I've about had it with her. The most selfish person I've ever met. And after all I've done for her. Members Popular Post ThereIsAField
I've got neighbours too, who have 2 dogs and they're my dog's best friends. So we regularly go on a joint walk, because the dogs love it. I really, reeeeally don't like these people tho. You would not believe how they grate on my nerves. We had our first proper falling out about a month ago... I've always just nodded and smiled when they'd be talking utter trash and just mentally saying my mantra "Put up with it for the dogs... Put up with it for the dogs..." but on this particular day I just snapped... It was just sooooo much BS piled on top of more BS... I spent the next few days literally worried for the dogs... Because my dog is a rescue and he so rarely makes friends with other dogs... Anyway, after a week of uncomfortable tension and awkwardness, we agreed to bury that particular hatchet and stay away from that and related issues in future and just focus on the dogs. I'm glad we did, cos it really does matter for the dogs... But at the same time, in retrospect I think it was good that we had that spat... I finally got so say what I thought for once, instead of constantly biting my tongue for the dogs' sakes and ever since, those 2 stoopid idiot neighbours have been a bit less obnoxious and a bit more polite. Now I feel like I have better boundaries in place with those neighbours and I don't allow them to grate on my nerves anymore. 4
