I teach Native Alaskan students and they speak of all this quite naturally, all the time. A few months ago I was talking aloud to my husband about why he doesn't send me signs or something and how hard it is here now with coronavirus and I'm all alone (etc. etc.). That night I was awakened by someone creeping around our house and it scared me to death. I crept to the window and it was a deer! In my backyard! I live in the city!
