Members Keisha1020
I lost my dad unexpectedly about 2 months. I was ok the first few weeks and then all of a sudden I started having rapid heart beat, tension headaches, pressure in my head, and pressure in my chest. And recently stayed having anxiety attacks. I been to the doctor and they keep saying its stress and telling to stop stressing but that's hard cause I just lost my dad and I graduated about a year ago and can't find a job. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms and what do you do to relieve stress??
Members Janya
Dear Keisha, Do whatever you can - its hard to stop stressing and getting anxious. Let the pain out until you can accept its there. Thats what I'm doing. Find a bereavement support group. Some good books i've read that have really helped me with my anxiety before is Jon Kabat Zinn - full catastrophe living (my mum actually gave me that one) - Hope and help for your nerves by Dr Carla Weekes. Read up about anxiety - I know its hard but welcome it - it won't kill you even if it feels like it will, we have to let it in so we can accept it and move on. This has worked for me in the past but here I am now with it again after loosing mum a month ago and I know it'll pass even if I'll always miss her. Tell your self your strong and you wont let this beat you and welcome it, keep practicing that. I'm doing it too. As for tension headaches - honestly going for a bit of a run, doing a shaking exercise and crying or screaming or beating up pillows does help - I did all those things today and the tension and headaches have alleviated for now. You're not alone. x
Members Keisha1020
Thanks Janya I will look up those books and I will try to exercise. Everyone is telling me I should but I'm scared because my heart rate rests at a faster speed than normal. Normally your heart rate should be between 60 and 100. My heart rests at about 112 to 120. I'm scared if I exercise I won't be able to control it. I went shopping last Saturday and it seems like it took it took everything out of me. I didn't feel"normal" until Sunday night. I don't know if it's an real issue or if it's mental?
Members JeanMihalick
I am dealing with this also. How can you stop stressing after the loss of a parent? Today I am actually in bed with a really bad sinus infection brought on by the stress. I have felt the start of a panic attack at work a few times. I just try and take deep breaths and keep ativan in my purse for when things get really bad. Take care!
