Members Sing
Leo, my sweet little guy that I've had for 12 years had to be put down today. I'm still reeling from it because he was absolutely fine on Monday. On Tuesday morning he was very unsteady on his feet and wouldn't eat any of his food. I took him to an urgent care vet and was with him there for over two hours and all we needed was a urine sample. They said they could look after him while I went home to check on my other dog. I then got a call telling me he went into cardiac arrest and if I wanted them to keep performing CPR. I said yes and he was able to be resuscitated. I spent the next 2 hours back at the vet with him while they stabilized his vitals. They recommended that I take him to a 24-hour animal hospital where they would be better equipped to run tests and care for him. No question, I did so, because I love this little dog to pieces. The news broke me. They found a mass in his heart that was constricting it and it couldn't pump enough blood. They think it was an aggressive form of cancer and it just never got caught. I don't even know what to do with myself right now. I would give anything to have him back but I hope he is at peace now. I love you, Leo, and you will be forever loved and forever missed.
Moderators KayC Posted October 25, 2023 Moderators Report Share Posted October 25, 2023 I am so sorry, I lost my Arlie (dog) to cancer over four years ago and I miss him continually. The what ifs blame game happens to most of us going through early grief, it did me when my husband died nearly 18 years ago...it's not that we are guilty of anything but loving them, and the truth is feelings are not facts, but it's that we can't wrap our heads around what happened, and our mind is trying to find some different possible outcome so it searches all the what ifs...
