Moderators KayC Posted June 20, 2023 Moderators Report Share Posted June 20, 2023 I am so sorry for your loss...maybe you'd like to share what happened? The what ifs blame game happens to most of us going through early grief, it did me when my husband died nearly 18 years ago...it's not that we are guilty of anything but loving them, and the truth is feelings are not facts, but it's that we can't wrap our heads around what happened, and our mind is trying to find some different possible outcome so it searches all the what ifs... Members Genesis reyes
Yesterday I decided to give my dog some food that was leftover which was rice, spaghetti, and a burger Patty which I usually don’t give him human food but I decided to just because I wanted to make him happy. While eating he began to make dry heaving noises which is like he’s going to vomit but nothing came up, he became desperate and ran to his bed making that noise and began to panic not knowing what to do calling my sister to call the vet. I have no car so I was lost and scared watching him in panic while he began making that noise less and less until his eyes rolled back, I got in contact with a vet who would see him that was nearby so I called a taxi hoping they would let me bring him along and by then I looked at my dog and he was lifeless on his bed. I still took a taxi but it was to late but they said nothing was in his windpipe he didn’t choke it was probably a stroke or heart attack but I can’t help but think if I never gave him that food he would probably still be here. I feel guilty and I cannot come to terms with his death it doesn’t make sense to me.
Moderators KayC Posted June 21, 2023 Moderators Report Share Posted June 21, 2023 I cooked for my dog all his life because he couldn't tolerate dog food, he was 140 lbs so it was a lot. The first thing I thought of what pancreatitis, but if the vet said it was heart attack or stroke, that's likely what it was. It may have just been a coincidence...it's so hard to deal with when you're in shock and want so desperately to save your dog, my heart just really goes out to you. (((hugs))) I looked it up and it says (quote): Foods that your dog can eat while suffering from pancreatitis include: Rice. Pasta. So there's your answer, it wasn't what you gave him. And a hamburger patty won't do it. Rest easy, mom. Your dog died, but not from you.
