Members Popular Post WithoutHer
I was on the site that Vickie joined after EP shut down just browsing posts when out of the blue I got a private message from someone who knew Vickie on EP and Facebook. She recalled Vickie losing her brother and mother and I explained what happened to her brother. It was nice to actually have a conversation with someone who knew and remembered her so well. Other than her daughter it was a real first. I did have one inquiry about Vickie there before but no real conversation. That is my positive for the day. Regardless the pain I am always open to speaking about Vickie. It keeps her close to me. 4 2

Had taking it off to do repair work involving electronics. Work complete, going up on top to get ready to go home, pulled my ring out of my pocket to put it back on. I hit my ring finger with the ring and it popped out of my right hand and bounced off the hull and into the water. I was so sick and beside myself. Was afraid of telling Veronica when I got home, but when I explained what I happened, I broke down. She calmed me down and said as long as I was okay, she was okay. She got me another ring looking very much like the original based on pictures of our hands from our wedding. Still wear that second ring. 5

Moderators Popular Post widower2 Posted July 21 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted July 21 That is a good thing! Yesterday I purchased the house I've been renting for far longer than I'd planned. I don't plan on staying here long term, but I said that when I first moved here years ago. Now I need to make some improvements (including some I should have had the previous owner do, doh!) and hopefully sell in the next year or two. Today I successfully buffed out some scratches on my car. Oh my wild and exciting life.... 3

Members Popular Post Rey Dominguez Jr
Slowly releasing myself from things I didn’t want to do without Veronica. Usual Saturday afternoon, wandering aimlessly with purpose at the Navy Base exchange and made my way to the food court. Ordered a bacon cheeseburger at Five Guys for myself that Veronica would always get. Enjoyed it in her memory. Always ate there before going grocery shopping at the commissary. Later, I made flight reservations to go visit our families in El Paso, TX. If I had to find a justification for the trip it was to be present for our grand-nephew’s 4th birthday. I am sad Veronica never got to meet him before she passed, and I never made the time to go to El Paso so we could meet him. One reason or another, always something, you know? So, first trip out of town for me without my bride. Was going to drive our truck but I needed a “softer landing” as it were. Instead of 12 hours on the road by myself, flight is just under 2 hours time. Let me get this trip done and then later I should be okay to make the trip by car/truck. Small steps. 4

Easing yourself into your new environment. A 2 hour flight is less stressful than a 12 hour drive; especially with the hot weather these days. That little statement above got me thinking about my own feelings these days.......AM i WANDERING AIMLESSLY WITH A PURPOSE, OR AM I MOSTLY FOCUSED ON GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS WITHOUT A PURPOSE?? I would have gotten an answer to that 2000-3000 years ago if I were in Greece. Eventually, I would have bumped into a local philosopher. They probably would tell me I have a case of ANALYSIS BY PARALYSIS. 4

Members Popular Post Rey Dominguez Jr
I enjoy the drive, and have made the trip once many years ago when I drove to El Paso to bring Veronica and our kids back to San Diego after getting back into port from a shipyard period. I was just not looking forward to the empty passenger seat on this first trip without Veronica by my side. Ever since we moved to San Diego from Hawaii in 1977, we always drove to El Paso and back to see family and friends. 3 1

Moderators Popular Post KayC Posted July 22 Author Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted July 22 Positive today: They're making headway with the new fires so far, wind working for us instead of against us, and cooler temperatures, 70s to 80s this week. Had to close the house due to helicopters flying overhead! Cooling it off now. On another matter: Remaining admin of my diabetic group messaged me questioning my political beliefs, which I consider none of his business. All because I posted the article about Biden stepping down. I didn't comment, didn't give a view (and won't, not the place for it there or here, but I posted it on MY FB page, not in the group) so I told him I found it offensive. I feel the same as your George about driving and Vickie loved getting out and taking in the sights. Now because of that empty seat I go nowhere and have no interest in venturing out. My emissions test is due so I will be taking a drive to a self service kiosk and might force myself to pick up some fast food on the way back. I assured him I'd be the first one out when the time came, but it meant so much to me that he cares and they're hospitable. My son did his own loose perimeter on CalTopo and got 4,000 so nowhere near WatchDuty's info. Huge relief! It also felt good to know my son is keeping an eye out on the fires for me, I hadn't heard from him in a month, yet he's secretly keeping watch over me. Good to have such caring kids. 3
Members Rey Dominguez Jr
Perhaps not really a positive, as it were…. You know how when, driving on the freeway, a large bug smacks the windshield and leaves a big smear. And then the wipers just spread the smear instead of cleaning it? I have developed a really annoying floater in my left eye. Annoying because it seems to be larger than the others in both eyes, and because it seems to loiter in the center of my vision. As Widower2 points out, better safe than sorry. Scheduling an appointment with the eye doctor to check my eye for anything that could be an issue. But I still have to chuckle a little because when I turned 65, I joked to a friend that I turned into a pin cushion. During the first 5 months after last summer’s birthday, I scheduled the pneumonia, RSV, and both shingles vaccines. Plus I had my yearly flu vaccine and the COVID booster. After the last one in January, I looked at our pharmacist, who is fantastic, and asked, “Are you finished stabbing me in the arm for a while?” He grinned and replied, “For now…” 1 3

Members Popular Post WithoutHer
I have three positives today. For those who remember my taste is coming back a bit. It's never to come back fully because of my sense of smell loss but some foods are becoming tolerable allowing to eat more solid food and be somewhat less dependent on the high calorie meal replacement drinks to get my calories. Related to that I bought some snack size of bags of BBQ Fritos to try for the taste and texture. Bella my elder kitty decided it time to visit Dad while I was eating and she jumped up the left arm of the chair and that's the hand I was eating with. I began talking to her which I always when she comes for my attention and was explaining why I couldn't pet her. She was watching my hand go in and out of the bag all along. So I took one out and let her smell it. She seemed interested but didn't try to take. Very shortly I rested my hand in of her while took a drink of water with my right and she started licking my fingers and making sure she didn't miss a single one. I started laughing because she has never eaten anything that wasn't cat food or chicken when offered to her. It cracked me up and gave me laugh I've long needed. I've got a cat that likes BBQ LOL The next Kay would be proud of me if I was in her diabetic group. I haven't been good about using my levemir at night regularly for quite some time. I went to get it refilled and my pharmacy told me it was no longer covered without explanation. We figured out it's being discontinued in the US because of supply issues which is a shame because it has twice the room temperature shelf life of it's substitutes. Anyway this incident got me doing my night shot like a good boy and my morning fasting levels are less than 100 every day. We won't talk the yoyo I still and have always gone through during the afternoon and evening LOL. The doc is fine with my A1C. Long boring post I know but I really need these moments. 3

Members Rey Dominguez Jr
Spent a couple of hours this afternoon in the alley cleaning up weeds and grass that have grown unchecked in the cracks and crevices in the concrete. Alley by my garage looking like a jungle, almost. Had not been back there in a while, I guess. When I was working on the truck yesterday, had to get under it and all these weeds and stuff made the job unpleasant. So, weed whacker and a straight-edge shovel did the job to cut and rip out all the weeds and grass. Swept it all up and used a blower to move the remaining dust away. Worked up a sweat and got good and tired. When I came in after i was done, in my head I could hear Veronica telling “you deserve a beer, but you need a shower!” I replied “Thanks”. Showered and then had a couple of beers for my hard work. Felt productive. 1

Members Popular Post foreverhis
Today a dear friend (Cosi's Catmother) and I made our yearly batch of apricot jam. Although I don't care for apricots myself, most people I know do. I dislike the texture and the flavor when they're fresh. That and memories of the huge apricot tree outside my bedroom window growing up, hot summer days, fallen overripe fruit, and my job to clean up make them just...ick. But they're not too bad in homemade, very low sugar jam loaded with local fruit. John and I started making jam and fruit sauces in 1997. After he died, I just couldn't face it without him. Then in 2022, I decided to dip my toe back in with the help of a few encouraging friends. It's our third year of making this jam and it's splendid. We canned 10 (two rounds through my small canning pot) and had enough for two containers of leftovers, plus 15 extra apricots for those who enjoy them. My friend took one and the other we set aside for Raleigh's mom and dad. The last year or so, the four of us friends have been spending lots of time together. It's quite a companionable, lovely group. Raleigh's dad, also my baking partner, is the only man. He's the best of men, just like John was. I count myself lucky to have him as a friend. I found out today that they've planned a nice birthday outing for me next month, just as they did last year. And my "yoga gals" group always has a birthday goody after class on the closest day. I'd say these are wonderful positives. 3
