Members Silvergirl61
Today, my daughter and her fiance carried me off for the day, and encouraged me to go out with a friend. Just try it they said... it might make you happier. C'mon, Mom.... They wouldn't take no for an answer. They wouldn't listen to my protests that i am just too old, I don't feel like going...none of the excuses worked...and so dragging my feet... I went. They were right..it was wonderful, and Fred and i had a good day. We understood each other from the start, and i think I can find room in my heart for this old love...he doesn't demand, he doesn't pressure me into things, and he is quite a gentleman. He is patient and kind, and watches out for me...so i don't get scared, and helps me realize.. i can still do this..and i'm not too old to still enjoy life.I've shared lots of photos of My Dennis..so i thought you might be interested in seeing some of Fred, too. Here he is...and hope you get a small smile. Take some joy when you can find it. Peace to you.
Members HeyJude
Oh Silver!!!! That is just fantastic!! How could you even say no to Fred? He is beyond handsome!! I'll tell you what friend...just reading your post and looking at the pics has made me want to return to my passion, horses!! A good gelding would be better than having a man any day!!! I have the room for a horse, I would just need to fence in my property. Or...I wonder if my boss would let me keep one here?? They used to raise thoroughbred quarter horses and have a really nice set up across the street from my office. He raises cows now...boring!! They had quite a few horses and bred them every year. I loved the time of year when they foaled. The babies were so beautiful. He had one solid black with blue eyes one year. It got to be too heartbreaking for them though with all that goes along with raising and breeding horses. Here is a picture of one of his stallions. Members Silvergirl61
I've never met her, but yes, he does..and some really beautiful cousins, too, who are coming along with their training programs nicely! Fred is a retired showman..so he has a bit of a tendency to 'show off'. As handsome as he is..that's not really a fault. This is a dream, that my friends have, and they are trying to make a go of it..and if i can help in a small way..I'm all for it! I used to love to ride..but it worried Dennis terribly, and I had to let my personal horses go to someone who could afford the time and care they have to have to be healthy. He never asked me to stop..he just expressed concern , that he might not be up to a rescue..if i was injured..and I went overboard in trying to not worry him..and I never said "that's why"... even to myself. After several years..I just let it get into my head, that the risk would be too great. I was wrong to limit myself that way...and that's part of the reason for this post...although it's hard and frightening..try not to let your fear rule you...caution is ok, but don't use it as an excuse to give up on living. I almost did that, and I hope you won't make my mistake. it's ok to smile, too- if your loved one was like mine..he would have moved mountains to make me smile...why would that change now? Members HeyJude
Beautiful horses Cats. They have gorgeous definition.Silver - the way you told us how you gave up your passion to not cause Dennis any grief...my husband Jerry did the exact opposite. When we first moved here back in 2000 he got it in his head that he was going to surprise me by buying me a horse. That was so incredibly sweet except for the fact that he knows absolutely nothing about what you need when you have a horse. I am so glad that my Sister-in-Law couldn't keep a secret. She told me all about it. So I asked Jerry about it. We didn't even have a home yet. Where are we going to keep this horse Jerry? How are you going to bring this horse home Jerry? We don't have a horse trailer. Neither of us had jobs yet...how are we going to feed this horse Jerry? It was so touching that he wanted to do this for me because he knew how much I love horses. He was willing to throw caution to the wind and surprise me.Unfortunately, I had to talk him out of the idea. Now that he isn't here anymore...now we could have a horse. Sad. Members Silvergirl61
The funniest part of that, is that he would have been annoyed with it, if he had tripped to the fact that I let it go because I caught him worrying, and would have went out and found a horse for me to ride and insisted! and may have even done it himself to prove the point he could if he had to! I also didn't want him trying to help me and get hurt..it's one thing to be silly with my own safety, and totally different to hurt someone else with it! I think the only things that ever frightened him were the possibilities of harm coming to one of "his girls', or the few times one of us was ill or injured. Anything else? he was a daredevil., and the one thing i could do to annoy him the worst was to "coddle" him..tough guys hate that! And I had to add this- thank you, HeyJude! I was able to post that..and the memory of his irritated grumpy face, when i fussed over him, if he was hurt or ill came to mind,so very clearly..and instead of tears this time..it made me laugh to remember something so normal...and i'm smiling now.. it's just a small step, but to be able to think of him and smile .. at one time I would never have thought it could happen..but this memory was just good..it does happen...in time. Members HeyJude
It does get easier to recount past memories doesn't it?? I am finding that I am more apt to smile now than cry and this is a huge breakthrough for me!!! I can actually talk about him without my voice cracking. And it feels good to bring some of these special memories to the surface again.
