I used to give a rose to my wife sometimes and she appreciated it. And about you friends... were you used to receive or  give flowers to/from your spouse ?

I used to get my wife red roses on Valentine's and her birthday, sometimes on other occasions too. Sometimes I'd get her two dozen roses. One time I surprised her when a delivery guy brought her these very nice long stem roses in a box with a card and teddy bear, she loved that surprise very much.

My husband used to plant flowering plants at each house we lived in. Rose bushes at several of our early homes but camellias became his flower of choice after awhile.

I have lived in 2 houses since he died and I planted camellia bushes at both.  I have 4 camellia bushes in my front yard now and I always think of John when I see their blooms.

I've read your posts. It's a shame that I gave so few flowres to my wife. I should have given her more flowes.

I would get Veronica a bunch of flowers at the Navy base flower shop just about every week or every other week.  Just because.  On Valentine’s Day I and our anniversary I would get her roses.  Red on Valentine’s Day and yellow for our anniversary.  She still gets fresh flowers every Sunday when I go visit her.

My friend brought me flowers yesterday, not the same effect as when George would. :(

Sparky,

That is so true.  I told my hubby that I didnt want cut flowers as they so quickly were gone.  That's why he planted flowers.

Ditto. John was far more likely to come home with an interesting pot to add to our collection and a plant to go in it. Then we would decide where to place the pot and put the plant in together. Over a decade or so, we amassed nearly 100 pots of various sizes for our yard/garden.

We live in a drought zone on a small “coastal/beach” lot. (Good thing we have excellent neighbors who are friends!) Ten years after we bought our house, we were sick of wasting water, nutrients, and effort on the sod lawn the previous owners had laid down. John worked with the contractor we chose and designed patterns of paving stones for nearly the entire small yard, save for a small “lawn” area for Pacific Buffalo grass for the dog and the small area we had lovingly prepared first for our bulb bed and now I am finally getting ready to redo it with natives, succulents, and drought/“benign neglect” tolerant plants.
