Members Bou Posted July 17, 2024 Members Report Posted July 17, 2024 The Youtube thread got me thinking it might be fun to see what everyone likes to watch on the tube. Netflix. I always find something there I just finished watching the Mole. I am a sucker for the reality tv stuff. Romancehub has some good movies I just fall into there because it comes up when I first turn on the tv. cheesy sometimes but light. youtube- I can't sing worth a darn. My daughter always tell me to stop. LOL but.... I have been YouTubing some karaoke stuff and giving that a go for something different to do. My taste in music always flips between pop stuff to new country with twist of this and that mixed in. What are some good movies or series, or shows everyone likes? I always have the tv on at night for wind down time usually am multi tasking with doing something else at the same time. 1
Members BohoKat Posted July 18, 2024 Members Report Posted July 18, 2024 I use the search feature a lot on Netflix, Prime, Disney and Roku. My tastes run to detective and action and historical. i would also suggest documentaries. You can find a lot of cool stuff by searching generic terms like history, science, astronomy etc. Makes you feel like you’re learning something instead of rotting your brain on the same old thing. Happy viewing! 1

I think just about everyone on the planet would love to be considered a great singer, but so few of us are. And so what...if you enjoy it, do it. I find my voice aligns better with some songs vs others, and once in awhile I really feel like "hey that wasn't Godawful" and happy with that. Quote What are some good movies or series, or shows everyone likes? I always have the tv on at night for wind down time usually am multi tasking with doing something else at the same time. One of the first things I do in the morning is turn on the TV and last thing at night is turn it off; it's always on during the day just for some background noise. But I watch little of it these days; I haven't even had cable for a long time as I couldn't justify the cost, so just got rabbit ears, which gives me local channels and a variety of others which is more than enough. I sometimes catch re-runs of earlier TV series I liked and sometimes watch cooking channels or documentary/nature/travel type things. Big Rick Steves fan. I watch movies off and on too....the last few have been underwhelming to me. The last one I saw I really liked was Maleficent, which I'd seen years ago but had forgotten much of it. 3 hours ago, BohoKat said: i would also suggest documentaries. Amen to that. Youtube has given me many hours of worthwhile viewing that way. 1

Members Gail 8588 Posted November 24, 2024 Members Report Posted November 24, 2024 I am just starting to watch "A Man on the Inside" a series on netflix. It's a comedy, but about a widower. Not sure how far I will get in it.
Moderators widower2 Posted November 24, 2024 Moderators Report Posted November 24, 2024 One of the channels I get now is totally western shows and movies...I've discovered "The Rifleman" and "Tales of Wells Fargo." Movie-wise I've recently discovered the "Despicable Me" series, fun and family-friendly animation starring Steve Carrell (The Office) as the main character. 1
Members ImMomma Posted December 2, 2024 Members Report Posted December 2, 2024 Usually watch our DVDs old TV series like JAG, but many are streaming nowadays. This.year i am.skipping all Holiday movies. By now we would have watched Die Hard and Christmas Vacation, but not this year. I cannot go to bed without the TV on. I havent.slept well in decades I used to read myself to sleep & many nights my husband would wake to find me asleep with the light on and a book fallen on my chest. My eyesight has been bad for over a decade. Now I watch an old Tv show called Bones. I wore out three DVD sets and now its streaming. I turn it on and try to fall asleep while watching. I'll see 2 or 3 episodes then wake up and realize i missed an episode. When I get to the last episode, I start over again. Its not that I love the show so much, but its enough to distract my mind without making it overly active or overly interested. Every year or so I change to The Waltons. We used to like the Big Bang Theory because it was funny and relatable in many ways. Movies - Oppenheimee was fascinating & one ofy high-school classmates is in it. We connected thru another school friend on Facebook years ago, but I dropped that and we lost touch so I was surprised to see him. I also watch Deepwater Horizon sometimes. I know some of the real people and work in that industry so it holds some deeper meaning to me. I don't know what is popular now. I've never rented a movie and have no accounts anywhere. But I will check out some of the things you all have mentioned here. I have seen a few You Tube videos that were interesting or funny. A couple are like watching a train wreck! Ive seen a few something like "Karens arrested by police" that somewhat captivating! Those are enough to confirm why I could NEVER be a police officer. Me: Step out of the car please Karen: Me: STEP OUT OF THE CAR Karen: NO Me: taser taser taser 😉 1

That's on re-runs around lunch time so sometimes I watch it. A show like that would NEVER make it today. It's great because it's so believable and not "Hollywood" in any way. Simple, honest people with mostly ordinary problems anyone can relate to, even if they've never had that problem. 1

A friend who knows me very well said I should give it a try, but also said she wouldn’t have recommended it 4 years ago. I have to admit that I absolutely love the show My Life Is Murder. I’m a huge fan of UK series. This one is in New Zealand. (First season was in Australia, then COVID came along and it’s a long story.) It stars Lucy Lawless, who I knew of, but had never watched Zena or remembered seeing her in anything specific, so I had no clue about her acting. She’s marvelous and so is the supporting cast. There are so many things about her character’s story that resonate for me. We meet her about 2 years after her husband died, just about the time I was starting to move forward a bit more, though that’s not the main focus of the show. Yet throughout four seasons so far, all the little “scenes and moments of grief” (as I call them) are generally spot on for me. I find myself either nodding internally or tearing up for a few minutes because I relate to that differently from how the “average viewer” might. It’s a drama with natural humor and natural emotion. I find that UK shows tend to be closer to reality when it comes to grief. They’re entertainment, so they aren’t absolutely real with it, just “righter” than US shows, IMO. 1
Members Gail 8588 Posted December 4, 2024 Members Report Posted December 4, 2024 I did enjoy A Man On The Inside. Don't think I would have the first few years of my grief, but it wasn't a problem for me now (almost 8 years). It portrayed retirement home/assisted living as a very nice living environment. I kept thinking "if only" or "I wish". The facilities my dad lived in here in Florida the last 2 years of his life did not function like that. But the show was funny and lighthearted. Ted Danson was great. They solved this mystery in season one, but cracked the door for a possible season two. I hope they produce another season.
Members GregW. Posted May 29 Members Report Posted May 29 I enjoyed the Yellowstone series as well as both prequels.
Members GregW. Posted June 10 Members Report Posted June 10 https://shawnryanshow.com/blogs/the-shawn-ryan-show I really enjoy his interviews. He has some very interesting people in the chair. Most of them are on either YouTube or Rumble. Apple has them all on their podcast app. Makes for a good way to spend the time on commutes home from work. A buddy told me about the SRS shortly after my wife passed. I seemed to have the free time to watch a couple....then was hooked. Many of those interviewed have overcome great loss and severe adversity.....they found ways to dig deep and make it back....to survive and then in many cases to THRIVE. This particular show was highly motivational. After watching it there was only one question left in my head, "What's your excuse, Greg ?" I had none.....at least none that I could verbalize. There is a "kick you in the butt" moment in each of his interviews. Be warned on the language that is sometimes used. Tough people who've done some super tough things. Harsh language is often used. I use worse when I bang into furniture or stumble into something around the house. Real, gritty and motivational is what I get from their stories.
Members GregW. Posted June 14 Members Report Posted June 14 I'd never heard of this one until seeing ya'll recommend it. First part of the first episode made for some tough watching....hit too close to home. It got legs, though. Well made and funny. If someone had given me the plot overview prior....I would have steered clear....now way it could be enjoyable, right ? 4 episodes into It over coffee today....after a post night-shift nap

I no longer recognized myself and I certainly didn’t know who the heck I was the first few years and I am still figuring it out after going on 7 years next month. But two friends who know me well and who have been part of my support circle from the start warned me and asked me not to let it stop me from watching. I always enjoy Ted Danson and think he’s often underrated. Sure, he’s got the comedy, but he’s also good with serious drama. A Man on the Inside blends the two. I don’t want to give too much away, so I will just say that I let the tears come during certain scenes in the last few episodes. There’s a real message about “moving forward, not moving on” that comes through. 2
