Members Popular Post ThereIsAField Posted May 20 Members Popular Post Report Posted May 20 I've come across an exercise challenge today... 10,000 steps per day for 365 days... I both feel like this is aspirational for me (an actual challenge) but also attainable (realistic goal). I'm tempted... but still a bit daunted as to whether I would manage...? I suck at exercise, so this would be really good for both my physical and mental health and could play a role in shifting the depression I've gotten into... 4 1

Members Popular Post Rey Dominguez Jr Posted May 21 Members Popular Post Report Posted May 21 10k steps is an interesting number. I went on my walk this afternoon using a “Map My Walk” app on my phone. Today I went a total of 3.2 miles around the neighborhood. The app tells me I registered 7.2k steps in just over an hour. I looked at a saved workout that shows a distance of 3.9 miles with 8.5k steps. Not sure how this app measures a step but 10k steps in a day should be possible for a really motivated person. 5
Members Popular Post ThereIsAField Posted May 21 Author Members Popular Post Report Posted May 21 10,000 steps per day is what we're all "meant" to do, in terms of being healthy... 🙈 It's like the official recommendation of what a healthy level of daily exercise is, which is why all the fitness watches and wearables have it set as the daily goal... Sigh.. Not having a good day today, so I know I'm going to struggle to meet this target today... I'm up to 4,700 steps so far (took the dog for a long walk this morning). When I was still working at the bakery, I'd get 10,000 steps done in each 6 hour shift... Hmm... I'm still not sure about this challenge... I've not committed to it yet... I think I "should" but I'm still back-and-forth about it... 5
Moderators KayC Posted May 21 Moderators Report Posted May 21 I'm sure I get it but don't wear the monitor, I walk 2-3 times/day @ 3 miles. 4
Members Popular Post ThereIsAField Posted May 21 Author Members Popular Post Report Posted May 21 So I dragged my lazy butt off the sofa and took the dog for an evening walk and I made the 10,000 target for today... I like that the Fitbit does this excited buzzing celebratory thing when you hit that target... I have no idea whether I'm going to manage this for another 364 days tho... 4 2

Maybe your steps are big? Take baby steps, then you might be able to do 10,000 steps walking just 2 miles.😄 💡 1 2
Members Popular Post Rey Dominguez Jr Posted May 22 Members Popular Post Report Posted May 22 That’s an idea, baby steps! Slow day at the Red Cross, only one delivery. When I got home I changed and had to go walking after sitting in the office for about 3 hours. Easy walk around the ‘hood of about two miles, just to get out and move around. Felt good. 5

Members Popular Post ThereIsAField Posted May 27 Author Members Popular Post Report Posted May 27 Just giving an update... Well, it seems I've "slipped into" this challenge... I'm on Day 6 so far and it's going surprisingly well. The first 3 days were the worst. My biggest positive so far is that my Fitbit can't tell the difference between me walking and dancing, so I'm getting quite a bit of dancing done at home with the radio up loud, so I'm having fun plus getting a cardio workout... And I'm enjoying hitting that "10,000" mark on the Fitbit... It gets so excited and buzzes, when I've reached the target... Funnily enough today, I had a really long day, running a ton of errands (12 hour day... sigh...) and just as I was plonking myself on the sofa and saying to the dog "I'm soooo done for today" the Fitbit chimed in with its "10,000" celebration... Made me laugh... I knew I was in the high 9,000's but that literally my last weary steps to the sofa was what got me reaching the target made me chuckle... 4 2
