Caregiving and grieving

I feel like my life is in such turmoil. My son Chris passed away suddenly in October 2011. Besides the exhaustion of grieving I care for my 92 yo mother. I am so sad and sometimes I find myself resenting my Mom. Not because I want anything to happen to her, but because sometimes you just need your mom to be your mom. She tells everyone she thinks it is a good thing I have to care for her because it keeps my mind off the loss of Christopher. Not really! I am so tired. I have no life. I go to sleep at 9pm because of extreme fatigue and because I just want to be asleep so I don't have to think. What do I do? My world is falling apart. I miss my son. Peace to everyone here.

Barb,

Can you get some home health assistance to help take care of your mom? What about other relatives to pitch in and give you some "me" time? Do you have any friends to help? What about church family?

I feel for you. Perhaps a self help group where you can talk about your son and get a break from your caregiver responsibilities will help. Also, what about looking into an adult day care for a few hours a week or day?

Thank you. Actually my brother is here from out of town. He is going to stay here, take care of mom, the dog and cat when we go on a vacation. I am also going to look into getting some help even if it is a couple hours a week. It helps just to have someone else wash her clothes, change her sheets and clean her room. Thanks again for the help.
