Members Stonesie
Okay, I didn't want to, I REALLY didn't want to, but it's time. I have to see someone before things take a very dark...and selfish...turn. How do you go about finding a grief counselor? I bet it is somewhere in this forum, if anyone can send me the link to another thread or even tell me what to do I would appreciate it. I have no desire to join a group for this, I just want a person. To keep me from killing myself (there, I said it). I've been thinking of that way too often and I recognize that I don't want that. Does insurance generally help with it? I know nothing. Thanks all.

Stonesie, I just googled grief counselors in my area--that being said, many of them had moved, or didn't get back to my email or phone message. I had been just driving around, looking for the offices of grief counselors I had googled. I was screaming and crying in the car. I ended up going to a hospice in our area that saw me right away--a counselor saw me right away. It was free, although at that point I was at I was quite willing to pay or do manual labor or whatever it took. After a few meetings I noticed on their information flyers that they had grief support groups for people who had lost spouses. Those I also found helpful, as it took me out of my own head and heart for a while, and made me realize there are people who understand, who know what I am going through. Please reach out for help. A lot of counselors will list that they deal with grief. I don't know what size town or city you live in, but I'm in a medium size city and there were quite a few in my area. Moderators KayC Posted January 4, 2018 Moderators Report Share Posted January 4, 2018 Google, phone books, call your local health association, ask around for referrals. Check with your health insurance about coverage, many do have mental health coverage. https://www.griefhealingblog.com/2012/10/seeing-specialist-in-grief-counseling.html Make sure it's a GRIEF specialist though, not all counselors are trained specifically in grief and the ones that aren't can do more harm than good in their errant "help". Also, some counselors charge based on a sliding scale (your income level). Look for someone with a degree in THANATOLOGY.
