Well Good

On days like today when something exciting happens to me where people/experiences/opportunities in my life are pushing me forward I would normally call my Dad. He would sit silently on the other line patiently listening to me as I update him on all the progress I’m making. Then as I finish, even though I can’t see him, I can hear him smile and say the two simple words “well good”. My Dad never said much, but he wrapped up all his pride, his happiness, and his encouragement for me in those two words. Today was such an amazing day and a big leap in my progress that I kept thinking to myself that I would call him as soon as I got home, only to remember that he won’t be there to answer my call.

Although he’s no longer a phone call away, I’ve created a space where I can talk to him and feel like he’s listening. Every morning and every night I stand in front and talk to him. I tell him what my plans are for the day, and at the end of the day I tell him how it went. The days that I’m overwhelmed I can feel him comfort me, and the days like today where I am excited I can feel him smile and hear him say “well good.”

Dad, for all the support you have always given me and the ones you still continue to give me, thanks. And my reply to you will be as it has always been, “I got this.”

I am so sorry about the loss of your father. What a great idea to set up a memorial for him where you can talk to him and feel his presence. He sounds like he was a good man.

We will be here for you,

ModKonnie
