Loss of an very Significant Mentor

I am in the process of lossing a significant mentor to cancer or the Side effects of chemo from treating cancer.  He has been given a limited amount of time to live, and is needing to terminate all mentor relationships to care for his own health.  This indiivual has been so significant in my life.  He has affirmed and listened and believed me in ways that no other indiivual has. He knows my story and the in's and outs like no one else.   There are also some unresolved issues there that is making grieving this significant loss even harder.  You know, the reveiwing and thinking through if you could have or should have done anything different.  The questions that have no answers and most of all just the severe pain of lossing someone whom has known you in  a way no one else has.  The feeling of responsibility and wondering if you contributed in any way to his illness

The pain of this loss and seeing him loose ground and knowing that he is dying is so hard.  Though I can form other relationships, this one has been so significant and I am in severe pain.  I am trying to take the time to allow the greiving and  to come so that i can move through this.  Life seems to have narrowed and the feeling of grief overwhelming me hits at the most unexpected times.  It is so intense.  This is the first significant loss of someone really close in my life and in reality I feel closer to this indivual then most of my family members which makes the loss even harder.

how have you dealt with this pain and what has helped you?

Treasureseeker,

I am sorry your mentor is struggling and so are you. Have you talked to him/her about how you feel? Have you told your mentor how much you cherish the bond? He/She may need that right now.

Can you now offer your help and guidance to this person in return for all your mentor has given to you? For now, cherish each moment you have and be sure and let your mentor know how much you care.

You deal with the pain by talking about it--just like you have chosen to do by coming here.

We will be here for you,

ModKonnie
